The Nordic Literature Week dedicate three evenings to stories, literature and food at Pub Stallhagen. Take the chance to eat fantastic food and listen to interesting discussions about literature and storytelling of the Åland islands. The evenings celebrate literature of Åland as well as its oral storytelling tradition. The event is a part of the Åland 100 celebration and the Nordic literature week. The theme for Nordic Literature Week is "Dreams and Longing in the Nordics".

Janina Orlov, Aino Waller and Pauliina Oinonen is all three working as translators. The work of a translator and the questions that arise with it is something that the three of them will be discussing in this conversation about the art of translation. The importance of a good translation and the fact that it always will be an interpretation of the original text, is some of the fascinating elements of translations. Janina Orlov is a literary scholar and translator who works with translations from Russian and Finnish to Swedish. She had translated authors like Sofi Oksanen and Rosa Liksom. Aino Waller is a professional translator and interpreter of Swedish, Finnish and English. She is also the project manager for the writing contest hosted by the government of Åland - Åland skriver. Pauliina Oinonen is a Finnish translator at Norden i skolan. She primarily works with translations from the Nordic languages to Finnish and the last five years she has worked with both fiction and non-fiction.
Mikaela Nyman was born in 1966 in Finström and lives with her family in New Zealand. She works as an author and freelance journalist. Her first published collection of poems was “När vändkrets läggs mot vändkrets” (2019) and it was nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2020.
During this evening Nyman will talk about her writing and read some of her published poems as well as parts of an essay about her grandfather Valdemar Nyman. An essay that was published in 2020 as a protest to the mosque shootings in Christchurch and which wanted to highlight the diversity within society. Nyman will discuss writing as a part of a holistic ecosystem that includes well-being alongside the artistic process. She will also touch on the difficult task of translating and interpretating her own as well as other writers' texts. For example, her grandfathers Valdemar Nyman.
