The Nordic Institute on Åland (NIPÅ) collaborates with the Finnish National Opera and offers school opera in swedish for up to three schools at the Åland Islands. Due to current circumstances, the application period is now extended to May 15th.
One school from Åland has already signed up for and also been chosen to take part of this fantastic opportunity, but now the Finnish National Opera is reaching out and are looking for more schools on Åland who would likle to grab this opportunity where they can guide schoolchildren into the world of opera. And we at NIPÅ really hope that more schools will take this fantastic opportunity!
In the school opera "Animal Planet", students in grades 3 to 6 get acquainted with opera by participating in and putting together a performance together with professionals from the opera world.
"The Animal Planet", compiled by Cecilia Damström and written by Monica Vikström-Jokela, is based on a workshop conducted in 2018 with students from Åshöjdens school in Helsinki. The main theme of the opera is our relationship to animals and how we all have the right to live on this planet. It asks how much we as humans can decide about the lives of others and what we could learn from the animals.
Please note that you do not need any musical knowledge to be part of the project.
Sign up your school at the latest by May 15th!
