Open call for indoor mural paintings

Publicerad Wednesday 27 May kl 13:08

NIPÅ's sister organization Nordic Cultural Point (NKK) has an open call, where they search for ideas for a series of separate muralspainting indoors. Both in the premises on Kajsaniemigatan in central Helsinki, but also walls in the Nordic Investment Bank's (NIB) office are relevant. The theme of the Open Call is "Connection" and all professional artists from the Nordic countries, regardless of nationality, are very welcome to submit an interest by June 14th.

The theme is Connection

The theme is "Connection", which can be interpreted completely freely and the visual idea should be applied as a continuous theme that links all the paintings together. The works are temporary and will be in place for a maximum of one year.

The site for one of the paintings is a white semi-circular concrete wall in NKK's hall. The dimensions of the wall are 18 m long and 2.9 m high. Via the link further down on this page you can see the wall in a digital tour. The wall will be primed according to the artist's wishes and the artwork does not have to cover the entire surface.

The location for the other paintings is one floor up in NIB's office space. Here are some smaller walls whose areas are about 8 - 15 m2. You can also see these walls about via the link below on this page. The designated surfaces do not have to be painted in their entirety.

The idea is that the visual theme recurs or that a concept based on the theme is applied to all surfaces so that they bind together and interact in an exciting way.

Experience and fee

NKK assumes that the artist has experience in performing paintings in a larger format. The paintings are done directly on the walls and may be done in the most environmentally friendly painting technique possible. The works must not contain protruding or detachable parts for fire reasons.

The fee for the paintings carried out is a total of EUR 4000 (incl. tax) and in addition, NKK also pays daily allowance according to the Finnish tariff, EUR 42 per working day. NKK's guest apartment on the island of Sveaborg (one of UNESCO's world heritage sites) 10 minutes boat trip from central Helsinki, is free to artists' disposal during the period August 4 to August 23, 2020. Due to any restrictions caused by Covid-19, the time schedule may be delayed.

NKK also stands for the artist's travels and all the necessary material for the execution of the paintings. At present, NKK plans to arrange the vernissage of the artworks on Thursday, August 20th.

We at NIPÅ of course hope that some artists from the Ålands islands will apply for this Open Call!
