Light and darkness

Yvonne Swahn is a Swedish artist who works from an unconditional starting point where sensations and impressions are interwoven. Memories and the influence of external and internal experiences and visual impressions from time to time create impulses, which then become images. It is the contrasts, light and darkness, that are woven together. In the fall of 2020, Swahn will show us a digital exhibition at nipa.ax.

” – For a long time, my world revolved around the concept of light and darkness and the various shifts of nature. The theme of this exhibition therefore is very natural Light and Darkness ”. says Yvonne Swahn.

The name of the exhibition is a metaphor for life's various stages and events. Swahn describes that as an artist she sees herself as an observer and interpreter, who mostly works from an unconditional starting point where sensations and impressions are interwoven. Memories and experiences create impulses, and become works of art, where the constrictions of life are woven together in light and darkness.

The painting grows slowly through a kind of interplay between the artist herself, and the picture. It is a rewarding and engaging creation process where she often feels that she "loses and has to start over" in the work, and that this fact also is a necesity for moving forward. The image "goes about nothing and is transformed", and then it re-emerges inorder to come to the surface again in a changed form.

Titles of the paintings are important tto Swahn, as they reflect her own summary of the finished artwork.

" - It is very nice to have gotten the opportunity to exhibit at the Nordic Institute on Åland and I look forward to sharing my artworks through this exhibition." says Yvonne Swahn.
