Nordic Council Session 2019. Nominees from Åland.

Publicerad Monday 21 October kl 13:44

On October 29th - 31st, politicians from all over the Nordic countries will gather for the Nordic Council's 71st session at the Swedish Parliament in Stockholm. On the agenda there are many important issues such as climate, sustainability and engagement of the young generation. The session is the Nordic summit and the biggest Nordic political event of the year. Here, the Nordic Council meets 87 members and a number of ministers, including the prime ministers. At the same time, many people also meet in this collaboration to coordinate projects and events, develop and exchange ideas and share experiences.

NIPÅ is the Nordic Council of Ministers' cultural institution in Åland and for us it is extremely important to have the opportunity to participate in the Nordic session as an opportunity to tell about what happens in the cultural life in Åland, what we work with on a daily basis and at the same time we get inspired by our Nordic family and by their projects and events. NIPÅ is also on site in order to meet both officials and politicians, to be updated on current political agendas and to meet the other Nordic cultural institutions who also are participating in the session.

At the same time, NIPÅ participates in the Nordic Council's awards ceremony, which takes place every year during the session. The Nordic Council awards help to highlight the close Nordic cultural cooperation and make us even more curious about what our Nordic neighbors have to offer and what other perspectives we represent in the Nordic countries.

This year, Åland has been nominated in 4 of the 5 categories, namely:

  • Nordic Council Literature Prize; Liselott Willén.
  • The Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize; Ann-Christin Waller & Anni Wikberg (ill.).
  • Nordic Council Music Prize; Johanna Grüssner
  • The Nordic Council Environment Prize; Emmaus Åland

We cannot wait for the award ceremony and of course our fingers are crossed for the Ålandic nominees!
